This novel is the sequel to Tom Sawyer, which ends with Huck being adopted by the Widow Douglas for saving her life, and Tom and Huck becoming rich from the treasure they found. This book opens with the Widow trying to “civilize” Huck. The newly rich Huck is kidnapped by his father, but Huck escapes by faking his death. It is while hiding on Jackson’s Island that he meets up with Jim and the adventures begin.
