This is the first of four readers for Horizon's kindergarten phonics and reading program.
This kindergarten program is a phonetically based word recognition and early reading program. Students learn to identify the name and sounds of each letter through a picture association with an alphabet story. This creative and colorful approach makes learning language fun. There are four student workbooks in the program, along with four basal readers: Ann's Cat, Mike's Bike, Clem's Snake, and Van's Scarecrow.
The readers are not your typical "early readers" with only one sentence per page. Instead, there are several sentences per page.
Lessons 1-30 introduce the child to the basic sound/letter connections using the short vowel sounds and the consonants. Lessons 31-60 cover the long vowel sounds. Lessons 61-160 cover the consonant blends and the vowel teams as well as syllables and word endings.
