The story line: When strange things begin to happen around Aunt Laura's house, Aunt Mabel implies they are all imainary. But when Connie comes for an extended visit, she begins to believe that someone really is out to cause trouble for Aunt Laura, and it could have something to do with Uncle Philip's collection of rare shells. Who is the man at the museum, Connie wonders, and the tattered boy and the hermit-like research student who haunt the marsh? Why does their pompous neighbor, Mr. Stafford, come by so often? Should she share what Aunt Laura told her with Stella, the friendly nature photographer?
