This next book in the “Investigate the Possibilities” series makes elementary physics easy and fun. The full-color “textbook” contains 20 investigations that include hands-on activities and experiments that guide students through key principles and concepts. All lessons are biblically-based. Topics include: where energy comes from, storing energy, how light works, color, using heat energy, magnets and magnetism, using electricity, circuits, static electricity, current, solar energy, wind and water energy, and nuclear energy. Glossary included.
The "reader" introduces students to key concepts in a field of science by building on a child's natural curiosity. Each lesson begins with a "Think About This" teaser that leads to an investigative problem, which students then solve using common household items. The experiment section includes a materials list and easy-to-follow procedures and observations.
This is followed by a brief explanation of what happened in the experiment, called "The Science Stuff." Two more sections, "Making Connections" and "Dig Deeper" add extension activities to the concepts. A "What Did You Learn?" section offers comprehension questions to check progress. Some units include a "Narrative" portion that applies the concept to everyday life. All of which help to put science in context, which in turn helps to make it "stick."
