Using classical techniques of memorization, copywork, dictation, and narration, the goal is to develop the child’s language ability in the important first years of study. It is considered a complete grammar text. The scripted lessons cover a wide range of topics, including parts of speech, sentence diagrams, beginning writing skills, story-telling, and narration.
This level continues the detailed look at the eight parts of speech and how they function in sentences. Topics include: demonstrative pronouns, sentences and fragments, comparative adjectives, types of adverbs, direct and indirect objects, interrogative pronouns, conjugating verbs, prepositional phrases, using commas, using quotations, and compound sentences. Three smaller sections cover writing letters, dictionary skills, and definitions, rules, and lists. Generally for the fourth grade, it can be used for 3rd-5th grades.
The consumable student workbook contains practice exercises and diagramming frameworks to helps students cement learning.
