The Student Text contains the teaching text to be read by the student, excerpts from pieces of literature that highlight the topic under study, and comprehension questions. There are also sidebars that contain author information and definitions of unfamiliar words used in the pieces of literature. Each unit contains a unit review that includes terms to know, concepts to apply, evaluating ideas, and short essay questions.
This program shifts gears from the previous two levels that used themes to introduce students to literature. Instead, more emphasis is placed on teaching the basic elements of good literature - conflict, character, theme, structure, point of view, and moral tone.
Written from a Christian perspective, this resource helps you teach the critical thinking skills necessary to analyze literature, thus equipping your student to interpret and evaluate what he or she reads in light of biblical truth. Included is an English translation of Rostand's drama, "Cyrano de Bergerac."
