Initial consonant sounds are presented in order of difficulty. Lessons start by have students circle objects that begin with a particular sound. Next, students are asked to write the letter representing an initial sound or a letter to complete a word. Various exercises completing words, decoding words, and/or matching words and pictures are also included. Students finish the workbook by writing words that name pictures, choosing words to complete sentences, or answer riddles. Answers included.
This series offers simplified practice books to develop phonological awareness and mastery of the very basic phonics skills and corresponding letter codes. Each workbooks focuses on the next sequential skills, giving practice through both picture clues, meaning in content (everyday examples), and rhymes. The pictures are also from real-life, making them literal enough for younger students to easily identify yet not so “babyish” that older, remedial students are turned off. This makes the series ideal for reinforcement of phonics instruction and for older struggling students.
