Topics covered include: printing press, Johann Gutenberg, the telegraph, Samuel Morse, telephone, radio, television, fax, computer, steam engine, train, internal combustion engine, jet engine, airplane, the Wright Brothers, rocket engine, spacecraft, hovercraft, military weapons, gunpowder, radar and sonar, electric light, Thomas Edison, refrigeration, sewing machine, modern appliances, clocks, microscope, Jonas Salk, medical imaging, microsurgery, roller coasters, phonograph, moving pictures, and becoming an inventor.
Each book contains 35 lessons as well as a unit project that ties all the lessons together. Each lesson includes a supply list, introduction to the topic, hands-on activities, worksheets where appropriate, activities to extend learning, fun facts, and biographical information where applicable. A “What Did We Learn” section asks gives a few comprehension questions to help cement learning.
The content of the revised edition is basically the same, although it is now full-color, with user-friendly graphics and some additional teaching material. The quizzes have been removed from the Student Workbook and are now in the corresponding Teacher's Guide.
