This black-and-white reproducible workbook is designed to develop students’ ability to transfer phonics and spelling skills to extended reading and writing tasks.
Phonic dictation tasks require minimal preparation, but can produce significant improvement in listening, auditory memory, handwriting, copying, language, and spelling skills. The book contains more than 60 step-by-step, high-interest, yet short passages to give students meaningful contexts as they practice key phonics skills. The activities are leveled, with four target goals that strengthen comprehension and give students an opportunity to correct errors. Each lesson includes 5 tasks: reading the passage (either aloud or silently), comprehension tasks, proofing tasks (find the errors), a copying task, and then the dictation task (teacher dictates, student writes). Includes teacher notes, handwriting tips, and placement test.
The dictation tasks review consonant clusters, r-controlled works, and three- and four-letter sounds; spelling phonic concepts that differ from their most regular forms; suffixes; and silent letters. 145 pp.
