Ray’s for Today offers the rigorous and uncompromising content of the original Ray’s New Arithmetic series in an updated format. It recreates the classical teaching in an age-appropriate and contemporary manner while still keeping the emphasis on oral language, mental math, and math reasoning.
The lessons are designed along the stages of learning: exposure, practice, and mastery. The goal is to build a deep, yet practical understanding of math. Eight levels are planned for grades 1 through 8.
Each level includes a Student Text and the Instructor’s Manual (sold separately or as a set) Please note: the Instructor's Manual is necessary to teach the course.
Each book comes shrink-wrapped and three-hole punched. Customers have the option of using their own binder or they can purchase a binder from us (sold separately, order HBC# 130632, the 2-inch binder for the Level 5 Instructor's Manual. The product cover can be slipped into the cover of the binder. This keeps costs down to make this one of the most affordable, full-fledged curriculums on the market.
The Instructor’s Manual explains how to use the program, has background information for each unit, teaching guidelines for each lesson, developmental benchmarks, learning style tips, and answer key. The appendix includes a readiness test (grades 2+), the previous level benchmarks, the current level scope and sequence and benchmarks, summer extension tips, additional cement mixers (extra practice/homework), and any manipulatives, game formats, and visuals that are needed for the lessons. Parents have permission to copy these for their own use.
The Appendix contains additional teaching helps and information for tracking the student's progress. It also contains the visuals and hands-on paper manipulatives used in the program. Families have permission to make copies of these for their own use. This way you can keep the original "clean copy." If you have multiple students, you may want to laminate the copies you make.
A master packing list of the materials required for the course are listed at the beginning of the Instructor's Manual. A packing list for each lesson is given in the lesson instructions.
New to Level 5 are reproducible Cement Mixers in the Appendix that provide extra practice for the lessons and can serve as homework. A separate Cement Mixer Answer Key is included in the Appendix.
