This is the first of two readers in Horizon's phonics program.
The Horizons 2 program reviews the phonics rules in lessons 1-30. Lesson 31-60 introduce triple blends and long vowel digraphs in multi-syllable words. Word patterns such as -olt, -ost, and -old are also covered. Lessons 61-120 cover alternative phonics/spelling patterns. Lesson 121-160 cover prefixes, suffixes, rhyming words, antonyms, synonyms, homographs, homophones, syllibication and accents, possessives, and irregular words.
The readers are relatively advanced; there are many sentences per page. Students are introduced to reading poetry as well as a rewritten versions of classic stories.
