It is important that students learn to analyze and interpret the literature they read not only for good results on standardized tests, but also for enjoyment in reading throughout their lives. This workbook introduces students to the elements of literature that will help them understand the flow of a story.
Topics include: plot, conflict, character, setting, point of view, style, mood, theme, tone, and genre (type of literature). Each element is defined with examples given from classic and modern literature. Then students are given opportunities to identify, explain and use each element. The child does not have to read the fictional books used; passages are quoted that illustrate the technique. Answers are included in the back of the book.
