Designed to be a “gentle, imaginative introduction to the skills all creative writers need,” this middle-school series offers simple but innovative exercises to encourage and develop creativity, poetry, and fiction writing skills. Unlike most “how-to” writing programs, this unique series is based on a mentor/student relationship, with teaching, guidance, and evaluation tips provided for the mentor/teacher. The series can be used as a complement to the Writing with Skill series that focuses on non-fiction writing.
This level covers even more skills in fictional writing and poetry such as additional points of view, word choice, interiority, working with time, structure and timing, voice and style, genres, formats, how to submit literary pieces, dealing with rejection, forms of poetry, nonsense poetry, and favorite poets.
