D.J. is surprised one night to hear a mysterious hound with a rare “bugle voice” baying on a trail. The hound dog men of Stoney Ridge would give almost anything to own such a dog. Many try to catch the newcomer, but it always runs alone at night and is never seen.
Of course D.J. and his best friend, Alfred, would like to catch the bugler, too, to replace the skinny stray that recently “adopted” Alfred’s family. The stray won’t even bay on trail, so the boys are especially keen to find the “ghost dog.”
In the process of chasing after the dog, the boys tumble upon a mystery – someone is polluting the mountain lakes. Even though a stranger threatens the boys, they continue the search that ends in a dramatic encounter.
The fourth book in the D.J. Dillon series teaches that things are not always what they seem.
A glossary is included in the back of the book that explains special terms unique to the Stoney Ridge area.
